University of East Anglia Staff Association Angling Club (UEASAAC)

 

General rules for fishing the UEA Broad:

 

1.      Fishing by season permit only, available from UEASAAC.

2.      The fishing season is 1st June to 31st March, inclusive.

3.      No fishing during the close season (1st April to 31st May).

4.      Anglers must hold a current Environment Agency course fishing license and obey the byelaws.

5.      Maximum of 3 rods per angler (use of 3 rods requires a 3-rod Environment Agency course fishing license).

6.      Dawn to Dusk only Permit Holders must not remain on the UEA Broad overnight.

7.      Dawn to Dusk plus Night Fishing Permits are only available to anglers age 18 years and over.

8.      Fishing sessions are strictly limited to 48 hours. After this time the angler must leave the UEA Broad with all their equipment and must not return to occupy a peg for 24 hours.

9.      Angling is only permitted from marked pegs. Entering the water to cast or bait up is strictly prohibited.

10.   Only one angler per peg, except where an angler age under 14 years is being supervised (see General Rule 11).

11.   In the interest of safety, Associate Members age under 14 years and Permit Holders age under 14 years must be supervised by a Member or Permit Holder age 18 years or older at the same peg.

12.   Anglers must not unreasonably prevent other anglers from fishing their peg of choice by casting across other pegs.

13.   Anglers are responsible for all litter and waste tackle at the peg. All litter and waste tackle must be taken home.

14.   Cutting of bankside vegetation is prohibited.

15.   No fish to be unhooked on the ground/platforms unless an unhooking mat is used.

16.   All fish must be returned to the UEA Broad.

17.   Carp must be returned to the water as soon as possible.

18.   No fixed lead rigs.

19.   Single hook rigs only, except for pike fishing.

20.   Treble hooks with a single barb. However, the use of barbless trebles is encouraged.

21.   Deadbaiting with sea fish, lamprey, or trout only.

22.   No live baiting.

23.   Unauthorised vehicles must not be taken down to the UEA Broad.

24.   Only UEASAAC sanctioned matches.

25.   Designated match areas are closed from one hour before the match start time until one hour after the match conclusion (see Match Fixtures).

26.   No tents (genuine angling brollies/bivvies only).

27.   No open fires or BBQs (camping stoves may be used).

28.   Non-prescribed behavioural changing substances are banned on the UEA Broad. Any Member or Permit Holder affected by such substances, whether or not consumed or administered on the UEA Broad, will be deemed as being in breach of the rule. This will automatically result in a lifetime ban.

 

Any unacceptable behaviour, including excessive consumption of alcohol or breaking of the rules above, will result in the immediate withdrawal of the fishing permit. The angler will be asked to explain their actions to the UEASAAC Committee who will consider the matter and may decide to impose a lifetime ban. No monies will be refunded.

 

Members and Permit Holders may act as bailiffs.

 

These rules may be amended from time to time by the UEASAAC Committee.
